How did you hear about HSMAI?
I heard about HSMAI years ago and have always gone to events and received information as a guest or affiliate of a member and recently decided to join myself.

Why did you join HSMAI?
I joined HSMAI so that I could have direct access to industry information and events that I wouldn’t otherwise have access to.

Job duties:
As Director of Revenue Management for Kor’s boutique hotels, I lead a talented team of Revenue Managers and Inventory Controllers in fostering a revenue management culture that focuses on optimally positioning each boutique hotel in the market place by understanding and reacting to the latest market trends, embracing the individual talents of all members of the sales team, and strategic planning using the latest in revenue management technology.

Not married, no children, one dog. I am the oldest of two children and grew up in a farming community in eastern Washington state.

HOSTA 2007 report | Benelux Hotel Results Moving Towards New Records

The HOSTA 2007 report, published by Horwath HTL, shows that the average room rate for a hotel in Amsterdam has achieved a record high last year, and will increase further in the coming years. In order to successfully sell your product or service, your goal should be to win clients, not assignments. Your income will grow larger if you have regular clients who keep coming back.

Go out of your way to please your clients and do a good job for them. No matter how busy or successful you are, it is important to come across as someone who is helpful, not someone who is "snobby."

There have been more than a few cases where we had to bend over backward for a somewhat difficult client. Later the customer went on to recommend us to many others, obviously impressed that we made the effort.

Build personal relationships with as many people as you can. Even people that you might consider unimportant could someday have a major say over whether you are hired. Try to participate in client activities. Make sure that you say hello to your clients at conferences and other events in your industry.

Remember, clients have the power. Never be rude or lose your temper. Always try to be patient, courteous, and friendly. Clients can choose not to continue working with you at any time, for any reason, or sometimes for no reason at all.

Add a Sender to the Mac OS X Mail Address Book Quickly

I have made it a habit to add just about everyone who sends me email to my address book (who knows?).

Mac OS X Mail helps with this obsession with a handy shortcut that lets me add a sender to the address book quickly.

    To add a sender to the Mac OS X Address Book from Mail quickly:
  • Open a message from the sender you wish to add.
  • Press Command-Y.

This adds the sender's email address (together with her name, if one appears in the From: line) to the address book without asking any questions.

If you want to edit the newly added contact (to assign a picture to it, for example), open the Mac OS X Address Book separately.
