How did you hear about HSMAI?
I got a notice about Affordable Meetings in Long Beach and saw that there was
a big saving to exhibit if one is a member. Also, I had heard of HSMAI
years ago when I worked for Marriott.
Why did you join HSMAI?
I looked on the web site and saw how active the chapter was with
networking events and other programs.
I thought it was a great networking source and a good opportunity.
Job duties:
I handle Group Sales. So basically selling the Belamar's Conference Center,
the only one in the South Bay, as well as Corporate Groups, Government, and Associations.
Other organization I'm involved in:
I volunteer at the YMCA and have
a good relationship with the Director at the Brentwood location.
Hobbies and/or Special Interests
The Holistic Arts, definitely And
who doesn't want to try new cuisines. Other than that I'm really interested
in any activity which promotes youth development, like I do at the YMCA,
camping trips, playing basketball, etc.
Tell us about your immediate family:
Single basically. I have family in Los Angeles.
Other comments:
The Belamar Hotel is a trendy boutique property and recently had a 2.5 million
dollar renovation.
We have a brand new and the only Conference Center in the South Bay. Our
restaurant, Second Story, is new as well.
Our Ballroom is also brand new and great for weddings and other social events

Lessons
from the Field | Updating marketing and sales strategies mid year NOW is
essential | By Dr. John Hogan, CHA MHS CHE
I have learned in my career to consider the marketplace,
the competition and the overall trends and cycles if I expect to be successful.
In the past, this has usually meant creating an annual marketing plan and
working that plan. Weekly and monthly action plans would lead to quarterly
reviews and updates. The next year's plan would take those updates and
trends and as a team or a corporation, we would decide the next plan of
strategies and tactics.
