Elite Meetings International

How did you hear about HSMAI?
I went to Affordable Meetings West in Long Beach last year and did research for Elite Meetings International. It was a great source for the launch as we cater to both sides, Hotels and Planners.

Why did you join HSMAI?
Jay Klanfer recommended that I join HSMAI and that confirmed my feeling that I should join. I just got back from Affordable Meetings West in San Jose, and it was unreal, so much better than I expected.

Job duties:
Wow, we have a huge picture. Matching planners with upscale resorts through Elite Meetings Magazine, EliteMeetings.net and our event, Elite Meetings Alliance.

Elite Meetings came about because I was always getting asked what was the best hotel in this city or that for a particular type of meeting. I saw the need for a source to fill the gap and Elite Meetings fills that gap.

Our Board of Directors include high end hotels and industry veterans from both the supply and buyers’ side.

Other organization I'm involved in:
Professionally, MPI and International Luxury Travel Market (ILTM), a European based organization.

Personally, I’m on the Board of Advisors for The First Tee. We mentor kids of all backgrounds through golf.

Right now that’s all I have time for!

Tell us about your immediate family:
Three boys – Seven, seven and six.

Awards:
We’re so new, none yet. But, stay tuned!!!

Other comments:
Elite Meetings International is building a solution. We want to save people time and be a efficient and effective source to do that.
We fully expect to be a household name within a year.

Design: It’s What Consumers Crave Everywhere | By Karen Weiner Escalera
This season, current trends are all but impossible to survey without mentioning design. From food, to retailing, to travel, one question seems urgent: Design with what objective? Function? Comfort? Social responsibility? Aesthetics? Certainly, design can be, and quite often is, about all of these notions. More and more, design is seen as encompassing emotion. Design, says Jean Marie Massaud, recipient of the Createur d’Anné of the 2007 Paris Salon du Meuble, is about “feeling alive.”

Marketing Tip

Profit With High Touch
by Kevin Nunley
www.drnunley.com (888) 429-6203

One of the most powerful money-making ideas in today's techno economy is very simple. In our age when just about any job can be done by a machine, attention from a human being is becoming the one thing people will pay big money for.

Think about it. Many firms answer your call with a voice mail system. The recording may offer you several options to answer your question. At no point are you given the chance to talk to a real person.

Sure, this is cost effective, but wouldn't you be more likely to spend money if the company immediately put you in touch with a real person who could give you answers?

One man built his video sales into $1 million per year simply by answering all email personally and calling customers whenever possible. When the task got too big, he hired a well-trained customer service staff to continue the hands-on personalized service.

As the world gets even more automated with computers and the Internet, customers will pay more and more to get the help of a real person. Provide personalized service and watch your sales grow.

How to Access Gmail with Outlook 2007
by Heinz Tschabitscher
www.email.about.com

You like your email to be where your calendar is and your to-do list, too?

Outlook is your calendar, and you do already access work email in it? You fancy getting your Gmail messages in it?

Fortunately, setting up a Gmail account is easy in Outlook. Incoming messages can still be archived and accessed via the Gmail web interface, of course, and outgoing mail is automatically stored there as well.

To set up access to a Gmail account in Outlook 2007:

To have Gmail retrieve mail from an existing POP email account:

  • Make sure POP access is turned on for your Gmail account.
  • Select Tools | Account Settings... from the menu in Outlook.
  • Go to the E-mail tab.
  • Click New....
  • Make sure Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP is selected.
  • Click Next >.
  • Type your name as you want it to appear in outgoing email under Your Name:.
  • Enter your Gmail address under E-mail Address:.
  • Type your Gmail password under both Password: and Retype Password:.
  • Make sure Manually configure server settings or additional server types is not checked.
  • Click Next >.
  • Click Finish.
  • Now click Close.

Using the Send/Receive toolbar item, you can immediately download new messages in your Gmail account to your Outlook Inbox.

If Automatic Configuration of Your Gmail Account Fails

If Outlook was not able to configure your Gmail account automatically, you can still do it manually:

  • Follow the first 9 steps above.
  • Make sure Manually configure server settings or additional server types is checked.
  • Click Next >.
  • Make sure Internet E-mail is selected.
  • Click Next >.
  • Make sure POP3 is selected under Account Type:.
  • Enter "pop.gmail.com" under Incoming mail server:.
  • Type "smtp.gmail.com" under Outgoing mail server (SMTP):.
  • Enter your Gmail user name (the part of your Gmail address preceding "@gmail.com") under User Name:.
  • Type your Gmail password under Password:.
  • Click More Settings....
  • Go to the Outgoing Server tab.
  • Make sure My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication is checked.
  • Go to the Advanced tab.
  • Make sure This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) is checked under Incoming server (POP3):.
  • Verify Outlook has entered "995" under Incoming server (POP3):.
  • Select Auto under Use the following type of encrypted connection: for Outgoing server (SMTP):.
  • Click OK.
  • Click Next >.
  • Now click Finish.
