How did you hear about HSMAI?
I've been in the industry for 12 years. How could you not hear? HSMAI is an industry standard. It's a great place to take you out of your hotel, learn what's going on in the industry and take it back to your hotel

Why did you join HSMAI?
For the resources, networking, updates in the industry. It's my thumb beat to what's going on in my industry.

Job duties:
Primary job is to control top line revenue. Bring in clients that fit our property and generate as much revenue as possible.

On the marketing side, I make sure that our brand standards as a member of the Hilton family are maintained. I do the marketing demographics, determining which medium, newsprint, radio, etc., is most cost effective based on what we want to attract.

Other organization I'm involved in:
We are very involved with five Chambers of Commerce in the area – Monrovia, Arcadia, Duarte, Irwindale, and Sierra Madre.

We are the host hotel for the Boys & Girls Club of The Foothills, which covers the San Gabriel Valley. We are also the official Host Hotel for the Renaissance Pleasure Faire, as well as the official Host Hotel for Santa Anita Racetrack.

We are very involved with Monrovia Reads which help prevents illiteracy.

Hobbies and/or Special Interests
I'm an artist, I paint oil canvases. I also do my own motivational group speaking to artist groups. Relating the motivational speaking to that group's cause.

Tell us about your immediate family:
I consider myself to have two families.

I have a son and daughter. A dog Rizzo and a cat named Cosmo.

I moved recently to work here in Monrovia at the hotel, I consider the hotel folks my family too. So, I have a family of four at home and 60 at the hotel.

Awards:
The hotel just opened in September of 2007 so we are still ramping up. I received the Circle of Excellence from Hilton in 2004.

Other comments:
I think the benefits HSMAI offers are great.

With the present situation in the industry we all need to get more. We need to change to meet the upcoming economic conditions.

HSMAI is a good place to learn and take the information and the good feeling back to your team.

Show Customers They Really Can Get Something For Nothing

The old saying goes you can't get a free lunch. Surprise customers with a truly free item or service.

It is a terrific way to get new prospects and leads that can initiate long term sales and business relationships. Back in 1996 when I was starting my business on the Internet, I offered a free report on how to promote your business. While I haven't offered that report in years, I still get requests for it almost every day. People LOVE free stuff.

Your free product or service should be something that relates to the things you sell. If you sell advice, give away a report. If you sell a service, give away a free check-up or consultation. Or give away a small item that compliments the kinds of products you sell.

Give it away with no strings attached. Make it clear that accepting your gift will never lead to any obligation. It's not a discount or an introductory offer, but a completely free gift.

To change the way unread mail is highlighted in Outlook:

  • Select View | Current View | Customize Current View... from the menu while you are in your Outlook Inbox.
    • In Outlook 2003, choose View | Arrange By | Current View | Customize Current View.
  • Click on Automatic Formatting.
  • Select Unread Messages.
  • Click on Font....
  • Specify your desired settings.
  • Click OK.
