Study Says: How To Make Money In The Hotel Business - Keep Your Prices

A new study from the Cornell Center for Hospitality Research revisited the question of whether discounting works to bring in more money, compared to direct competitors. HOTEL HIGHLIGHTS & OPENINGS 15 March 2006 | DALLAS, TX - Gatebridge Hospitality, a venture formed between Gatehouse Capital, Champ Development (led by Starwood veteran Joe Champ) and Aimbridge Hospitality, today announced it would develop and invest in five aloft hotels in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The hotels will be operated by Aimbridge Hospitality and franchised under a long-term contract by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE:HOT), the parent company of aloft. 15 March 2006 | In the coming days, the Blackstone Group will sell the Baymont Inns & Suites brand and franchise system as the next move in the integration of La Quinta to its fortress of extended stay and luxury properties. Meanwhile, the renamed LQ Management LLC will expand its corporate-owned hotel count, jumpstart a $275-million re-imaging and lift the bonus ceiling for general managers. 15 March 2006 | PARSIPPANY, N.J. | Cendant Hotel Group today announced it will bolster its commitment to limited-service, midscale lodging by acquiring the Baymont® Inn & Suites brand and system of 115 franchised properties. Cendant Hotel Group will acquire worldwide rights to the Baymont Inn & Suites brand from affiliates of The Blackstone Group, a private investment firm based in New York. Cendant will not acquire any properties as part of this transaction. 14 March 2006 | LAS VEGAS, Las Vegas Sands Corp. (NYSE:LVS) and Hilton Hotels (NYSE:HLT) announced today the addition of plans for a 1,200-room Hilton Hotel and a 300-room Conrad Hotel to the Cotai Strip(TM) currently being developed by Las Vegas Sands in the People's Republic of China Special Administrative Region of Macao. 14 March 2006 | Signalling its enduring commitment to the luxury business and its Regent brand, Carlson companies, one of the world’s leading hospitality, travel and marketing companies, announced an evolutionary step – the merger of Regent Hotels and Radisson Seven Seas Cruises under its global Regent brand. 13 March 2006 | GREENWICH, Conn., Starwood Capital Group announced today the creation of the Starwood Land Company, LLC, a new subsidiary that will oversee the development of the company's residential and resort investments in the Eastern United States and the Caribbean. Initial agreements were concluded with World Trade Centre Moscow in December last year. 15 March 2006 | Golden Tulip Hospitality announces its expansion in Germany and Austria through the taking over of the hotel lease agreements for five hotels previously managed by German based RIMC. While a customer may like your product, it could be your caring service that really turns them on. In other words, it may not be how well your products or service WORKS that really count, but how it makes the customer FEEL. The one thing all my customers want to feel is hope.
