How did you hear about HSMAI?
Actually through our Bureau & our lodging industry.

Why did you join HSMAI?
To give us another opportunity to get involved, network & get the word out about our wonderful community.

Job Duties:
Oh, gee!  I wear many hats.

We partner with the Wine Growers Association, the Old Town Association and the Legislature.  Doing PR to make sure all our Tourism partners are partnering together.

Other organizations I'm involved in:
CalTIA, Destination Marketing.  We’re still a growing Bureau, we incorporated in 2004.  We were a sub committee of a Chamber.

We have started a Tourism Improvement District, like a Business Improvement District, but concentrating on Tourism which started March 1st.

Hobbies and/or Special Interests:
I came from a retail background, so my hobby is retail merchandizing.  Themed Retail is my specialty.  I helped the Grand Canyon Railroad tell their story visually through merchandizing expression.

Spending time with family.

Tell us about your immediate family:
I have a husband & have been married for seven years.  I have a daughter six years old, London & a three year old daughter Kennedy.

Other Comments:
We’re excited about the opportunities HSMAI has to offer.

Marketing Tip

Give Customers An Experience
by Kevin Nunley
www.drnunley.com (888) 429-6203

Customers like a good product or service, but even more, they like a good experience.

As business people and consumers spend more time at work, they have less time for experiencing life out side of work and shopping.  As a result, many customers like to experience excitement or emotion when they buy.

People want to feel happier, smarter, sexier, or wealthier after they buy.  While a customer may like your product, it could be your caring service that really turns them on.

In other words, it may not be how well your products or service WORKS that really count, but how it makes the customer FEEL.

The one thing all my customers want to feel is hope.  They want to be reassured that their business will succeed.

RSS Feeds are the Better Email Newsletters
by Heinz Tschabitscher
www.email.about.com

Reading News and Blogs via RSS (Really Simple Syndication) - Spam Free

Email newsletters are great, but spam is not. The deluge of junk mail has made it increasingly painful to follow the news and what's happening on your favorite web sites via email.
Either the newsletter you're eager to read is hidden in a massive spam attack or it does not arrive because your ISP is blocking spam and your favorite newsletter falls victim to the filters, too (now you know why a "false positive" is something negative).

RSS Feeds as an Alternative to Email Newsletters

Fortunately, there is an alternative way to subscribe to the web sites and blogs you visit regularly: RSS. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary (of course, the acronym can be explained in many other creative ways), and it allows you to "syndicate" news summaries from web sites.
You can use these syndicated RSS "feeds" to display the latest news from major newspapers, for example, on your own web site or read them on other sites collecting these feeds, more…
